Current Projects(2020-2021):

Project: Andhra Area Book Donation

Project Lead: Dheemanth Munipalli

Project Team: Dheemanth Munipalli and Sudiksha Munipalli

Project Description:

The project is donating 10th grade study guides to new schools in the Andhra district. So far we have donated over 200 books to 2 schools worth 3,000 dollars. We have more schools interested in the project from the Andhra Area and are going to be raising more money and distributing more study materials.

Project Target: The project target is to distribute 500 books to students at least 1 month in advance of their finals exams.

Impact: We are helping 10th grade students prepare and pass their respective 10th grade exams as these exams play a crucial part in their career advancements. If students do not pass these tests in India, it often leads to school dropouts and early marriages for girls. By preparing and distributing study material that encompasses their school curriculum for the year, it allows them a better opportunity to further their educations and career paths.

Project: English Language Books for Telugu Medium Schools

Project Lead: Dhruti Sirigibathina

Project Team: Dhruti Sirigibathina

Project Description:

More than 78% of the world population use English in their everyday life, and at least half say that they need English to keep their job. (US Census Bureau). In 2016, Telangana switched 2,002 primary and upper schools to English medium, but as a result, the enrollment rate increased while grades and student success decreased. Besides those struggling with this change, hundreds of students still attend Telugu medium schools, and these children have to struggle to find jobs and be par with others who have already learned English. This project will print free, basic English books for high school kids in these Telugu medium schools to promote active communication in any situation in their future.

Project Target: 15-20 schools, 5 – 7 districts

Impact: Give opportunities for Telugu kids through English communication.

Project: Aid 4 Afghan Families (A4AF)

Project Lead: Dhruti Sirigibathina

Project Team: Dhruti Sirigibathina, Suhiti Sirigibathina

Project Description:

Over 20,000 Afghan families fled to the United States after the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. Unfortunately, many of these families ran with a small bag of items, or just the clothes on their back, leaving an insurmountable challenge to live in this new life. A4AF conducted drives to collect gently used kurtas/salwar kameezes dresses for the refugees to use comfortably. We also collected hygiene products and toiletries to make their drastic change as smooth as possible.

Project Target: Donate supplies such as cultural clothing, hygiene products, and toiletries to help the Afghan refugees settle into their new lives.
